5 – WILD SAVANNAH AND UGANDA GORILLAS

DAY 1             ENTEBBE (ARRIVAL)

Arrival to Entebbe airport and transfer to the guesthouse in Entebbe. No meals included.

Overnight at Karibu Guesthouse – Standard Rooms.(-/-/-)

 

DAY 2             ENTEBBE – MURCHISON FALLS

Early breakfast, then we depart to Nakitoma to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary (3 ½ hours approx.,170 Kms northwest from Kampala and half way to MurchisonFallsNational Park). Game walk totrack the white rhinos that are spending the hot hours mostly in the swampy areas. Then we proceed to Masindi, where we will have lunch at Court View Hotel. After lunch we continue our journey to Murchison Falls National Park (approx. 3 hours). We drive in a beautiful landscape, land gets flat towards the north as you head to the bottom of the Victoria Nile. Arrive at the lodge,  check in and relax for the rest of the evening.

DAY 3             MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, a morning game drive follows in the northern bank of river Nile as we look out for the elephants,Cape buffalos, Roth’schild giraffe, hartebeests, Oribis, bushbucks, Bohor reedbucks, spotted hyenas and with some luck you could even spot the lions and leopard. We will be back in time to have breakfast and lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon we take a boat cruise (at 14:00 hours) upstream to the “bottom of the falls”. The Nile here gets calm at the base of the falls, we stop a few meters from the “Devil’s Cauldron”, where it compresses 47m to squeeze through a 6-meter canyon dropping 40m with a thunderous roar.  En-route, marvel at the, hippos, crocodiles and over this 17 km stretch you may see elephants as well as a lot of bird species like Goliath heron, pelican bee–eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorant and the rare shoebill stork. At this point we will get off the boat and, hike to the “top of the falls” to catch a close view of the beauty that forms the Murchison Falls. This is a guided walk that takes about one and a half- hour. Our driver will pick us from the top and then drive back to the lodge (approx. 1 ½ hours transfer).

DAY 4             MURCHISONFALLS – FORTPORTAL/KIBALE FOREST

This day we drive to Fort-Portal via Hoima, in a breath taking landscape that forms the Albertine western Rift Valley. It is a quite long drive ( 8 to 9 hours) but we will have several stop overs to relax, and sightseeing as we pass verdant countryside, traditional homesteads and farms. We will have our packed/picnic lunch on the way. Check in and relax for the rest of the evening.

DAY 5             KIBALE FOREST

Early in the morning, we make our way into the jungle to search for Chimpanzees. Watching our closest relatives in their natural habitat for the second time but Kibale Forest is a fantastic experience. In the afternoon, after lunch at our lodge, we have the possibility to go on a 3 hours walk into Bigodi Swamp. It is one of the best places to see the great blue turaco and with some luck; we can spot more primate species.

DAY 6             KIBALE FOREST- QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

In the morning we leave Kibale Forest National Park and drive through Fort Portal, and then along the mystical Rwenzori Mountains towards Queen Elizabeth National Park. As we reach the park boundaries, we may see some animals along the way. In the afternoon we arrive at the Lodge around Queen Elizabeth National Park where we will have lunch. In the afternoon, we will do an evening game drive around the volcanic craters of Katwe.

DAY 7             QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

Early morning game drive in the park: Queen Elizabeth National Park is a diverse ecosystem with savannahs, tropical forests, rivers, swamps, lakes and volcanic craters. It is a home to an incredible variety of wildlife. Safaris in this park offer excellent opportunities to see wild animals such as lions, warthogs, leopards, giant forest hog, buffalo, elephant, waterbuck, Uganda Kob, topi, bushbuck and other animals. The park has over 550 species of birds. In the afternoon we enjoy a unique 2-hour cruise on the Kazinga Channel to Lake Edward. This cruise offers excellent opportunities for a variety of big game and bird watching.

DAY 8             QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK/ISHASHA – BWINDI NATIONAL PARK

We leave the lodge early in the morning and drive to Bwindi. On the way, we drive through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park where we will make a Safari in search of the famous tree climbing lions and other wild animals. Then we leave the Queen Elizabeth National Park and the road takes us to the famous Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

DAY9  BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

Early in the morning we enter the sanctuary of the mountain gorillas, the spectacular Bwindi Impenetrable rainforest. It has a dramatic, steep wooded landscape with numerous mammals such as the endangered mountain gorillas, the Gold monkey, forest elephants, buffalo, duiker, bushbuck, leopard and giant forest hogs. Meeting the mountain gorillas is an exciting and fascinating experience that you will never forget.

DAY 10                       BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK – LAKE MBURO NP

After breakfast we drive to Lake Mburo National Park which is located on the way back to Kampala with lunch in Mbarara. In the Park we have the opportunity to discover the largest antelope the eland and zebras. In Uganda, they can only be found here and in the Kidepo National Park. Sometime back, the Uganda Wildlife Authority had transferred some 15 giraffes from Murchison Falls National Park to this park. With some luck we can also spot them in their new home.

DAY 11                       LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK – ENTEBBE (DEPARTURE)

Early morning we go for a walking safari into the park. After that we come back to the lodge for a late breakfast. Thereafter, leave the Lake Mburo National Park and drive towards Kampala. This ride takes us back across the equator, where we will take our lunch and we should take the opportunity to shoot a souvenir photo. Continue to Entebbe for our departure flight (B/L/-)
